Product Description
Smoking hookah without burnt tobacco
Anyone who has ever had coals that were too hot knows how quickly a shisha session can go wrong: bitter smoke, burnt taste, session over. A HMD heat management device solves that. You place it on top of the hookah tobacco bowl instead of aluminum foil. The coals sit in the device, heat is distributed through air vents on the side, and the tobacco receives constant, even heat. The result: full flavor, thick smoke, and a session that lasts much longer.
This HMD model is made of stainless steel with a heat-resistant handle. The handle stays cool when the coals are in it – handy if you want to move it or adjust something without gloves. The air vents at the top are adjustable: more open gives more heat, further closed retains heat longer as the coals burn down.
Why an HMD works better than foil
You can easily use aluminum foil incorrectly: too many holes, too few holes, foil that tears when you adjust it. An HMD eliminates that uncertainty. You place two or three coals in it, turn the lid to the desired position, and the device takes care of the rest. No fiddling, no guesswork about how much heat to let through.
Advantages over foil:
- Even heat distribution over the entire tobacco bowl
- No burning of tobacco due to excessively hot spots
- Longer smoking duration because coals burn down evenly
- Handle stays cool, safe to move
- Reusable – better for the environment than new foil every session
- Easy to clean after use
- Fits almost all standard tobacco bowls
Who is this device suitable for?
The HMD is suitable for both beginners and experienced shisha smokers. Beginners benefit because they don't have to learn how to properly poke holes in foil and how much heat to let through – the device largely makes that decision for them. Advanced shisha smokers appreciate the control: by setting the ventilation opening to a fixed position, you get the same heat every session, which makes comparing flavors and settings much easier.

Setup and use step by step
Always use the HMD with a good shisha charcoal burner or hookah charcoal burner. Heat the coals until they are fully glowing, meaning completely orange-red on the outside without any black spots. Then place them in the HMD:
- Two coals for a small or half-full bowl
- Three coals for a full standard bowl
First, open the ventilation opening slightly to get it steaming. Towards the middle of the session, you can open it further for more heat, or close it a bit more if the tobacco is already hot enough. This way, you get the most out of your shisha tobacco without having to get new coals halfway through the session.
Maintenance and cleaning
After the session, allow the HMD to cool completely before touching it. Remove ash and coal residue with a small brush or dry cloth. Then rinse it with warm water. Do not use an abrasive sponge – that will damage the stainless steel. A soft cloth is more than enough. Let it dry thoroughly before the next session.
Regular cleaning is important: ash that remains in the air vents obstructs airflow and provides less even heat. Two minutes of cleaning after each session is enough to keep the device in good condition for years.
Which coals work best
The HMD works best with hookah and shisha natural coals. Quick-light coals are too hot and require chemical ignition - that gives an off-taste and isn't good for the HMD. Natural coals burn longer, produce no distinct odor, and are better suited to the stable heat output that this device offers. Good options from our assortment:
- Babylon shisha coals - coconut coal, long-burning
- Tom Coco shisha hookah coals - popular and even
