Hookah charcoal screen: enjoy your shisha longer

A charcoal screen for hookah is a small accessory that makes a big difference during your shisha session. You place the attachment on top of the foil of your hookah bowl. A hookah charcoal screen solves this. The screen lifts the coals a few millimetres off the foil. Heat now spreads through the metal grid, not through one or two hot spots. The tobacco is heated evenly, and your flavour lasts longer. An additional advantage: the foil is less likely to tear, as there is less direct contact with the glowing bottom of the coal.

Suitable for square shisha coals

This charcoal screen is specially designed for square shisha coals. These are the blocks you heat on a hookah coal burner before placing them on the bowl. Square coals are popular for their long burning time and the stable heat they emit. With this screen, you get even more out of these properties, as the heat is even better distributed over the surface of the bowl.

Round quick-starters or easy-light coals do not fit well on this type of screen. If you use shisha easy-light coals, choose a different solution. This screen is truly intended for block-shaped coals.

How to use the hookah charcoal screen?

The setup remains the same as usual. You set up your hookah as you normally would:

• Fill the hookah vase with water and set up the pipe.
• Fill the bowl with your favourite shisha tobacco.
• Stretch the aluminium foil tightly over the bowl and poke holes.
• Place the charcoal screen on top of the foil, so that it rests stably on the rim of the bowl.
• Place the glowing square shisha coals on the screen.

That's all. You don't have to change anything in your normal procedure. Regularly pull on the hookah hose to feel the temperature and slide a coal to the side if the smoke gets too hot.

Maintenance and cleaning

After use, the screen cools down by itself. Once cooled, rinse it under the tap with warm water. Residues of burnt coal dust are easily removed with a soft brush. Let it dry thoroughly before storing it, so it doesn't rust.

Combine with the right coals

The quality of your natural hookah coals has a big influence on your session. Good square coals provide long and stable heat, without the sharp taste you sometimes find in cheaper coals. Well-known options that work well with this screen are coals from Black Coco, Tom Coco and Cocowawa. All square, all made from pressed coconut shell, and all suitable for use with this charcoal screen.
