Loading and using the bowl

Load loosely. Do not pack the tobacco tightly into the bowl, as this will block the airflow. Fill the bowl just below the rim, so the tobacco does not touch the foil or HMS. When using foil, poke even holes for good airflow.

If you use a KALOUD or another metal Heat Management System, you don't need foil. Place the HMS on the bowl, wait until the coals are fully lit, and then place them in the HMS. Always start with two coals and add a third if you want more smoke.

Make sure your hookah vase has enough water and that all connections are secure. A hookah grommet between the bowl and the stem prevents air loss. With a good connection, the smoke draws easily, and you don't have to pull hard.
