The Smokah HMD 2.0 Matt Black in this set

Included in this set is the Smokah HMD 2.0 Matt Black. HMD stands for heat management device: a metal lid that you place over the head so that coals burn better and are less susceptible to wind. The HMD has a diameter of approx. 7.5 cm and is 4.3 cm high with the lid, 3.4 cm without. With an HMD, you use fewer coals than with foil, while the temperature remains more stable. You need to adjust less, and the coals burn longer.

Setup and Use

Loosely fill the tobacco depot of the Blue Matter with your favorite tobacco. Do not press too hard: air must be able to flow through the filling. Make sure the tobacco stays a few millimeters below the rim. Place the Smokah HMD 2.0 on top of the head. Then place 3 glowing coals in the HMD and put the lid on. Wait two to three minutes until the system is up to temperature, then draw gently.

Note: never place the HMD on a hot coal burner to heat coals in it. The metal can deform under extreme heat. Always heat coals on a separate surface and then place them in the HMD.

Maintenance and Cleaning

After each session, some ash and moisture will accumulate in the head. Rinse the tobacco head with warm water after use. Do not use soap or abrasive cleaners: this can damage the structure of the stone-clay. Let the head dry completely before storing it, preferably with the opening facing down so that moisture can drain. The Smokah HMD can be rinsed with water and a soft brush can be used for the grooves if necessary.

Which coals are suitable for this set?

For best results, use hookah natural coals based on coconut shell. These burn longer, give less aftertaste, and are better for the taste of your tobacco than quick-light coals.
