The Kalifa Phunnel Mini Apatit is a handmade hookah tobacco bowl from Germany. What makes this shisha tobacco bowl special is its blue-stone pattern - the so-called apatite look. No two bowls are exactly alike. Each bowl has its own small color and texture differences, just like real natural stone. That gives it character and makes it recognizable among other tobacco bowls.

The bowl is made of stone-clay and finished with a glaze layer. This glaze ensures that flavors do not penetrate the material. After each session, you simply rinse the bowl and the next flavor starts fresh, without any residue from the previous time.

Sizes and what exactly you can expect from it

The Kalifa Mini Apatit is compact: 9.8 cm high and 7 cm wide externally. The tobacco depot has a diameter of 5 cm and a depth of approximately 1.3 cm - conical, so narrower towards the bottom. This is deliberately kept small. You fill less tobacco than with a large shisha tobacco bowl, which works excellently for shorter sessions or for trying a new flavor without having to pack a full bowl.

The phunnel system keeps the molasses together. With a regular bowl, molasses can run along the holes and drip into the hookah vase. The phunnel prevents this. The molasses stays in the bowl, the tobacco does not dry out, and you smoke with the same flavor until the end.

Setup and use

Place the Kalifa Mini Apatit on the neck of your hookah. Check that the connection fits well with a hookah grommet. Loosely fill the depot with tobacco, just below the rim. Cover with aluminum foil and poke holes - or use an HMD from Kaloud or another metal chimney. Because the depot is shallow, less heat is needed than with a large bowl. Start with two hookah natural coals of 26 mm and adjust to your preference.

The compact size also makes the bowl suitable for a shisha travel set: it fits easily and is sturdy enough to take with you.

Cleaning and maintenance

Thanks to the glaze finish, you don't need to put in much effort. Rinse the bowl immediately after use with warm water. This prevents residue from caking. Is there residue in the depot? Use a soft brush or a shisha cleaning agent from our cleaning supplies. Let the bowl dry completely before storing it. Do not put it in the dishwasher - the glaze can be damaged by it.

Due to the glaze layer, stone-clay bowls absorb fewer flavors than unglazed clay bowls. So you can switch flavors without the previous flavor lingering.

Which coals are suitable for the Kalifa Mini Apatit

Because the depot is shallow and compact, the bowl works best with shisha natural coals of 26 mm. Two coals are sufficient in most cases. Larger coals of 33 mm provide more heat than necessary, which can cause the tobacco to burn. If you use an HMD, make sure you choose one that fits a smaller bowl - not all models connect well to a 5 cm tobacco depot.

We advise against quicklight coals for a handmade stone-clay bowl: the fast and uneven heat development can stress the glaze. Instead, opt for Black Coco, Tom Coco, or another good coconut coal.
