How to use Gorilla coals correctly?

Step one: heat the coals on an electric electric coal burner until they are fully red hot. Make sure all sides are glowing, including the inside. Half-glowing coals give uneven heat and release CO gas. You don't want that.

Step two: place the coals on your hookah bowl. If using aluminum foil, place them on the edge of the bowl. If using an HMD, place them in the device's basket. Start with two cubes for a standard bowl, and adjust the amount based on the heat you want.

Step three: give the hookah a minute or two to warm up before the first puffs. This way you won't burn your shisha tobacco right at the start. Use hookah tongs to move or rotate the coals if one side needs more heat.

Always use the coals outdoors or in a well-ventilated area. Burning coals produce carbon monoxide, even with natural types. Let used coals completely extinguish in a fire-safe container before disposing of them.

Cleaning and maintenance

The coals themselves do not require maintenance. What you do want to keep clean is your coal burner. Ash that accumulates on the coil of an electric burner causes uneven heating and shortens the life of the device. Wipe the burner with a dry cloth after it has cooled down. That's all there is to it.

The ashtray or coal holder under your hookah also deserves attention. Wet ash is harder to remove. Let ash dry in a hookah coal catcher and empty it after each session. This keeps your setup tidy and means you don't have to scrub as hard.

The right coals for your setup
