Fill the head loosely with shisha tobacco up to just below the rim of the phunnel pipe. Do not press the tobacco, as this will obstruct airflow. Place aluminum foil over the rim and poke a pattern of holes in it, or use a heat management device (HMD) such as a Kaloud or Hot Pan.

Place the coals on the foil or HMD once they are fully glowing. Start with two or three coals, depending on the brand and size. Rotate them regularly for even heat distribution. Glass heads heat up quickly, so the first puff comes faster than with a heavy clay head.
