Coconut hookah coals: what makes Babylon different

Babylon shisha coals are made from 100% coconut shells. These are compressed into a solid 26 mm cube. This size fits almost any hookah tobacco bowl, whether you work with foil, use an HMD, or have a chimney. The coals burn calmly and evenly, release no odor or taste, and leave less than 2% ash. That means a lot less mess in your tobacco bowl and less hassle during the session.

How to light Babylon coals

Coconut hookah coals do not light with a regular lighter or stove top. You need an electric coal burner. Place the coals on the burner, set it to the highest setting, and let them glow for 8 to 10 minutes. Flip them halfway through so that all sides get hot. The coals are ready when they are glowing orange on all sides and no black spots are visible.

How many coals to use and how to place them

For a standard hookah tobacco bowl with foil, 2 coals are usually enough to get up to temperature. If you use an HMD or a chimney, 3 coals work better because the heat needs more space to circulate. Place the coals at the edge of the bowl, not directly in the center. This way you don't burn the tobacco directly and you can easily adjust the heat by sliding a coal away if it gets too hot.

When using ceramic or porcelain tobacco bowls: start with 2 coals and only add a third when the smoke gets thinner. This way you get the most out of every gram of tobacco.

Suitable for all setups

Storing and reusing coals

Store the coals dry and sealed. Moisture is the enemy of coconut coals: they become harder to light and release more smoke when burned. If you have an opened package, seal it with a clip or transfer the coals to an airtight container.

Coals that you extinguish halfway through the session can be stored and relit later. Place them on the burner as usual and let them glow completely again. They will burn a little shorter than new ones, but are perfectly usable for another time.

Complete your shisha evening
